Law enforcement in Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana, are searching for 47-year-old Kaegan Jude Solet after four people were found fatally stabbed and a child was critically wounded in the Ashland Drive area of Houma.
Incident and Current Investigation
Deputies responded to the 200 block of Ashland Drive, where they discovered a child with what investigators described as "extremely significant" injuries. The child was airlifted to an out-of-area hospital and remained in critical but stable condition, Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office Lt. Blake Tabor said.
The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office identified Kaegan Jude Solet as a person of interest. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is urged to contact detectives.
As deputies expanded their search of nearby residences, they found at least four victims who had been stabbed to death. Authorities have not released the victims' identities or clarified whether the victims were related to one another, the injured child, or Solet. Investigators also have not confirmed whether the attacks occurred inside multiple homes.
Person of Interest Status
Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim Soignet said detectives have identified Kaegan Jude Solet as a person of interest in the apparent series of stabbing incidents. In December 2019, Houma police arrested him after an alleged attack at the Red Carpet Inn, where a 59-year-old woman was found with numerous stab wounds. Police said witnesses heard cries for help and that the victim sustained life-threatening injuries. Solet was taken into custody about 18 hours after that incident and was booked on one count of attempted second-degree murder at the time.
Kaegan Jude Solet had not been arrested or charged in connection with the latest deaths as authorities continued searching for him.
Terrebonne Parish detectives also obtained a warrant for Solet in connection with a separate January 2019 homicide investigation; local authorities previously said they were looking for him in that matter. Final outcomes of the 2019 cases were not immediately available.
