Greenville Sgt. Diana Muñoz Returns To Duty After Fatal Crash That Killed Her Wife and Parents

Sgt. Diana Muñoz has resumed her duties as the Greenville Police Department's Public Information Officer on Sept. 9, months after surviving a catastrophic car crash in May that killed her wife and both of her parents.

The crash left Muñoz as the sole survivor of the vehicle she occupied. Her wife, Ashley Muñoz, 35, who was promoted to sergeant in 2023 and led GPD’s Criminal Investigations Unit, was among those killed. Muñoz's parents, Arturo Leon Muñoz, 64, and Maria Del Rosario Muñoz, 62, also died in the collision. Officials said the driver and passenger of the other vehicle involved in the crash were also killed.

Community Support and Fundraising

The couple were returning from vacation and leave behind two young children. In the aftermath, the Greenville Police Department and the community organized a fundraiser to support Sgt. Muñoz and her family. The department thanked contributors in a fundraiser post and noted that, while the campaign has ended, donations can still be made through the Greenville Police Foundation to assist the Muñoz family.

"Thank you to everyone who supported the fundraiser for Sergeant Diana Muñoz and her family," the department wrote. "Donations can still be made to the Muñoz family through the Greenville Police Foundation."

Local outlets including Fox Carolina, Greenville Online and WYFF have reported on Muñoz’s return to work, and PEOPLE reached out to the Greenville Police Department for comment.
