The FBI searched former Representative Eric Swalwell’s home and seized electronic devices over the weekend as part of an active inquiry that may be related to sexual assault allegations, CNN reported. Swalwell, who resigned from Congress in April after multiple women accused him of misconduct, denies all allegations. Criminal investigations have been opened by the Manhattan DA and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, and separate files released by a White House task force allege a past relationship with Christine Fang. The scope of the FBI’s current review has not been disclosed.
FBI Searches Ex-Rep. Eric Swalwell’s Home, Seizes Electronics amid Sexual Assault Inquiry

Federal agents executed a search of former U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell’s Washington, D.C., residence over the weekend and seized electronic devices as part of an active inquiry that sources say may be related to allegations of sexual assault, CNN reported.
According to people familiar with the matter, FBI agents approached Swalwell at San Francisco International Airport on Saturday to obtain his electronic devices and then carried out a search of his home the following day.
Resignation and Ongoing Probes
Swalwell, 45, resigned from Congress in April after multiple women came forward with accusations ranging from unsolicited explicit messages to allegations of sexual assault. He has denied the allegations through his attorney. Criminal inquiries have been opened by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, and the House Ethics Committee had initiated a probe prior to his resignation.
Allegations Reported
Reports published in April by The San Francisco Chronicle and CNN detailed accusations from several women. One former staffer told The Chronicle that Swalwell sexually assaulted her on two occasions between 2019 and 2024. Three other women who spoke with CNN described incidents between 2021 and 2025, alleging a range of misconduct including unsolicited explicit photos and unwanted advances while the congressman was intoxicated.
Among the most serious accusations, Lonna Drewes — who knew Swalwell socially — has accused him of drugging, choking and raping her in 2018. Swalwell’s attorney, Sara Azari, has said he "categorically and unequivocally denies each and every allegation of sexual misconduct and assault" and has pledged to pursue legal remedies against those she called responsible for a campaign of lies.
Related Materials And Unclear Scope
It is not yet clear which specific matters the FBI is examining in the current action. Separately, the White House Transparency Task Force recently published files under the codename "Rusty Thumb" alleging that Swalwell had a physical relationship in the mid-2010s with Christine Fang, a person identified in those files as a suspected foreign influence operative. Some reports earlier this year also said that Kash Patel, a former Trump administration official, had pushed for public release of an older file about Swalwell containing related allegations.
The FBI declined to comment for this report, and representatives for Swalwell have reiterated his denials. The investigation remains active and officials have not disclosed whether any charges will be filed.
