Fresh aerial strikes across Ukraine have killed at least five people and wounded more than 10. Kyiv’s Pochayna book market and other civilian sites were damaged, and a Wildberries warehouse near Moscow was reportedly hit. Both sides reported heavy drone and missile activity this week, highlighting the conflict’s shift toward sustained aerial bombardment.

At least five people have been killed and more than 10 injured after a fresh wave of aerial strikes across Ukraine, officials said. Attacks hit multiple cities, including Kyiv, Kremenchuk, Kryvyi Rih, Zaporizhzhia and Sumy, and damaged civilian infrastructure such as a book market in Kyiv's Pochayna district.

What Happened

Emergency crews worked at several impact sites in Kyiv, where air-raid sirens sounded repeatedly overnight. President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russian forces of deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure. Videos from the Pochayna market show burnt books and firefighters dousing remaining flames.

Casualties And Local Damage

Officials reported the bodies of several victims recovered from rubble: a 44-year-old man in Kryvyi Rih and two people in their 60s in Zaporizhzhia, among others. In Kryvyi Rih a further fatality and 14 wounded steel-plant workers were reported. Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko said at least six people, including a child, were injured in the capital.

"All these books in the street were from my husband's stall in the market — I recognise them on the floor," said 69-year-old Valentina, whose husband owned a stall at the Pochayna market. "You never think that it will happen to you."

Vinyl-store owner Luba, 42, told reporters she lost stock valued at about 500,000 hryvnias (roughly £8,262), calling many items "rare and irreplaceable."

Claims And Counterclaims

Ukraine and Russia traded claims about specific military targets. Kyiv says Russia struck Kremenchuk and Kryvyi Rih with ballistic missiles. Russian officials said some strikes targeted facilities producing missile parts and drone components, and claimed to have hit a steelworks and a dry-cargo vessel near Odesa said to be carrying military equipment.

Both sides also reported heavy drone activity. Ukrainian President Zelensky said Russia launched more than 1,550 attack drones, nearly 1,560 guided aerial bombs and 62 missiles across 13 regions this week. Russian authorities said their air defences intercepted and destroyed 822 Ukrainian drones during the overnight operations; Moscow mayor Sergei Sobyanin said around 600 Ukrainian drones had been launched toward the city and that three people were injured in Moscow.

Attack Near Moscow And International Incident

Moscow's authorities reported that a Wildberries warehouse in Koledino, about 25 km from central Moscow, was hit; circulating videos showed a large plume of smoke above the site. Wildberries, often described as Russia's equivalent of Amazon, has been targeted repeatedly in recent months.

Separately, the Romanian defence ministry said a Spanish F-18 on NATO duty shot down a drone that crossed into Romanian airspace near the Moldova border. Debris fell in an unpopulated area of Galati region after the interception.

Context

Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 and currently controls roughly one-fifth of Ukrainian territory. With front lines largely stalemated and only marginal ground advances by either side, the conflict has increasingly focused on aerial strikes — missiles and drones — aimed at degrading military capability and disrupting logistics.
