Nancy Guthrie, 84, the mother of NBC Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, was abducted from her Tucson, Arizona, home on February 1 and remains missing. The case has drawn national attention: investigators continue to follow leads, review footage and interview potential witnesses while the Guthrie family cooperates with law enforcement.
The Victim And Her Family
Nancy Guthrie had lived in Tucson for many years. She and her late husband, Charles Guthrie (d. 1988), were the parents of three children: Savannah, Camron and Annie.

Camron Guthrie, Savannah’s older brother, lives in Vermont and is a retired F-16 fighter pilot with more than 20 years of U.S. military service. Annie Guthrie, another sibling, lives in Tucson and is married to Tommaso Cioni; the couple has one son.
Lead Investigators And Key Evidence
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos is the lead investigator overseeing the search for Nancy Guthrie. His office has publicly stated that the Guthrie family has been cleared as suspects and characterized the family as cooperative and as victims in the case.
"To be clear…the Guthrie family — to include all siblings as spouses — has been cleared as possible suspects in this case," Sheriff Nanos said in a February statement. "The family has been nothing but cooperative and gracious and are victims in this case. To suggest otherwise is not only wrong, it is cruel. ... I'm begging you the media to honor your profession and report with some sense of compassion and professionalism."
The FBI, led in public reporting by Director Kash Patel, has assisted the Pima County Sheriff’s Department. Investigators worked with Google and other partners to recover video and still images from the Guthrie home that show a masked individual on Nancy’s front porch the night she disappeared. That person has been publicly described as "Porch Guy." The FBI has released clips and photos but has not confirmed an identity.
On February 10, 2026, the FBI announced on social media that it was continuing to work with private-sector partners to recover any additional footage or images that might help the investigation.
People Questioned Or Charged
Derrick Callella of Hawthorne, California, pleaded guilty to sending fake ransom messages and making harassing calls to members of the Guthrie family after Nancy vanished.
Carlos Palazuelos, a 36-year-old delivery driver from Tucson, was detained and questioned by investigators in February as part of the ongoing inquiry.
Law enforcement also executed a search warrant in Tucson that led to the detention of Daniel Maddox, 37, and his mother during a SWAT-assisted operation; authorities have said such actions were part of follow-up investigative work.
Where The Investigation Stands
The investigation remains active. Authorities continue to analyze recovered footage, pursue digital and physical leads, and interview witnesses and persons of interest. The Guthrie family has been publicly cleared as suspects and continues to cooperate with investigators as they seek answers about Nancy’s disappearance.
