High-Speed Chase in Daytona Beach: BMW Runs Two Stop Sticks, Crashes Into Parked Sheriff's Cruiser

Tuesday evening in Volusia County ended with a dramatic multi-jurisdiction police pursuit after 39-year-old Jason Therrien refused a routine traffic stop in Daytona Beach. Officers say the BMW he was driving displayed a license plate registered to a different vehicle, and when asked to pull over he accelerated away instead.
The pursuit: Therrien drove recklessly during the chase, cutting through traffic, using oncoming lanes, running red lights and at times exceeding the posted limit by more than 40 mph in residential neighborhoods. Holly Hill and Daytona Beach officers deployed tire-puncturing stop sticks (stop sticks) to try to halt the vehicle; police say the BMW drove over both sets and continued moving.
Crash and arrest: At the intersection of Old Dixie Highway and Walter Boardman Lane the driver lost control, left the roadway and struck a parked Volusia County sheriff's cruiser. Aerial footage showed law enforcement surrounding the damaged BMW with weapons drawn, and body-worn camera video captured officers detaining Therrien on the ground. No officers were reported injured.
Charges and evidence: Therrien was taken into custody and now faces multiple charges, including aggravated reckless escape and driving an unregistered vehicle. Officials say they found a quantity of drugs and paraphernalia in the car, including crack cocaine, fentanyl, cannabis and drug tools. Authorities also reported vehicle damage, punctured tires and a scratched bicycle at the scene.
The incident remains under investigation and the case will proceed through the courts. Local news outlet CBS 12 provided on-scene video and reporting.
