Two 28-year-olds, Tremaine Jeanne and Jessica Sani, appeared in court accused of trafficking two 17-year-olds from Cardiff to Thailand to act as drug couriers after 64kg (141lb) of cannabis was found in the teenagers' luggage. The youths were arrested in Thailand in June and remain in custody with support from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Jeanne and Sani were remanded and are due to appear at Cardiff Crown Court on 4 September; four other people are linked to the investigation.

Two people accused of sending teenagers to Thailand to act as drug couriers have appeared before a UK court after customs officers discovered a large quantity of cannabis in the youths' luggage.

Court Hearing And Charges

The defendants, 28-year-olds Tremaine Jeanne (of Llanrumney) and Jessica Sani (of Newport), face multiple drug-related charges, including conspiring to fraudulently evade a prohibition on importing a Class B drug and four counts each of conspiring to arrange or facilitate another person's travel with a view to exploitation.

Prosecutors allege two 17-year-olds from Cardiff were used as couriers after officers found 64kg (141lb) of cannabis in the teenagers' suitcases when they were travelling back to the UK. The teenagers were arrested in Thailand in June and remain in custody there.

Jeanne and Sani appeared at Cardiff Magistrates' Court via videolink, confirmed their names, dates of birth and addresses, and were not asked to enter pleas at that hearing. Both were remanded in custody and are due to appear with co-accused at Cardiff Crown Court on 4 September.

Investigation And International Support

South Wales Police said officers were alerted in June after the teenagers were detained in Thailand and launched inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the trip. Four other people have been linked to the investigation; one 23-year-old man from Keighley, West Yorkshire, arrested on suspicion of improper importation of controlled drugs, has been granted bail.

A South Wales Police spokesman said: "The children remain in custody in Thailand where they are being supported by their families and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. The families have been updated regarding the arrests and charges."

The investigation remains active and further court hearings are expected as prosecutors and defence teams prepare their cases.
