Two adult members of a family were killed and a third was wounded in a shooting at a residence in Prospect Hill, North Carolina, authorities said. The suspected gunman was also discovered dead inside the home at 352 Brooks Road, located roughly 28 miles north of Durham, shortly before 8 a.m. on Wednesday.
Deputies from the Caswell County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and found multiple people with gunshot injuries in what the department described as a "mass shooting." During a Wednesday afternoon news conference, Sheriff Tony Durden said three people — including the suspected shooter — were found dead inside the home from gunshot wounds. All four individuals involved were adults and members of the same family.
One surviving family member was taken to Duke University Hospital with a gunshot wound. Hospital officials had not released that person’s condition at the time authorities provided details.

Officials have not confirmed a motive or whether the incident involved domestic violence, but emphasized the event was limited to the residence and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
SBI crime scene investigators are on site processing evidence and conducting interviews. There is NO THREAT to the general public, and the event is contained to the above address, the North Carolina SBI said.
The Caswell County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation and is working to notify the victims’ next of kin. Assisting agencies include the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the Prospect Hill Fire Department, Caswell County 911 and the Person County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said additional information will be released as it becomes available via official press releases and the social media channels of the SBI and the Caswell County Sheriff’s Office.
