A drone strike on the Novoselki industrial zone outside Moscow killed five people and injured 10, regional authorities said. Warehouses belonging to the major Russian online retailer Wildberries were also reported hit in Krasny Bor and Emmaus. In Ukraine, Russian strikes killed three people in Sumy, including two children, and an 89-year-old woman in Mykolaiv. Kyiv said Russia launched 136 drones overnight, of which 117 were intercepted, and the UN reports rising civilian deaths in 2026.
Drone Strike Near Moscow Kills Five, Wounds 10 as Kyiv and Moscow Exchange Attacks

A drone strike on the Novoselki industrial zone outside Moscow killed five people and injured 10 others, regional governor Andrey Vorobyov said, amid a renewed exchange of strikes between Moscow and Kyiv.
Vorobyov wrote on Telegram that the strike sparked several fires in the industrial area. Russian authorities also reported damage to a warehouse near Krasny Bor in northwestern Russia, where one person was injured, Leningrad regional governor Aleksandr Drozdenko said. Wildberries, Russia's largest online retailer, said a fire broke out at its Krasny Bor logistics facility following the attack.
Another Wildberries distribution site in the rural Emmaus area, about 180 kilometres (112 miles) northwest of Moscow, was also reported hit, regional governor Vitaly Korolyov said. Wildberries—often described as the "Russian Amazon"—is widely used across Russia and has previously faced accusations of helping some imports circumvent Western sanctions since the start of the 2022 war.
In Ukraine, regional officials reported deadly Russian strikes overnight. Oleg Grygorov, head of the Sumy regional military administration, said guided aerial bombs struck civilian infrastructure in Sumy, killing three people including two children aged 5 and 10; their bodies were recovered from the rubble of their home. In the southern port city of Mykolaiv, authorities said an 89-year-old woman was killed in a separate attack.
Kyiv's air force said Russia launched 136 drones at Ukraine overnight; 117 of those were shot down or intercepted. The United Nations has documented a rise in civilian fatalities during 2026 as the more-than-four-year conflict continues without a negotiated settlement.
Separately, Moscow-installed authorities in Crimea reported that an unidentified serviceman opened fire, killing a fellow soldier and three civilians. AFP analysis of Institute for the Study of War data shows Ukraine's front lines remained largely unchanged in July, with Ukrainian forces largely halting further Russian advances.
Context: The strikes are part of a sustained cycle of cross-border drone and missile attacks between Russia and Ukraine that have escalated civilian harm and damaged commercial infrastructure in both countries.
