Spanish police arrested one of Sweden’s most wanted fugitives in Sitges, near Barcelona, after several days of targeted surveillance. The suspect is accused of about 20 violent offences, including murders, and is alleged to have trained and armed young recruits to carry out attacks. Spanish and Swedish authorities have been investigating the case jointly since June 2025. Officials say he maintained close ties to a notorious criminal figure dubbed the “Pablo Escobar of Sweden.”

Spanish police said on Monday they have arrested one of Sweden’s most wanted fugitives in Sitges, a coastal town about 30 kilometres from Barcelona, the Interior Ministry said.

According to the ministry, the man is wanted by Swedish authorities and is accused of roughly 20 violent offences, including murders and other homicides. Investigators allege he recruited and trained young perpetrators to carry out killings, organised attacks and supplied them with weapons, enabling a violent criminal network.

Arrest Details

The arrest took place on Saturday after several days of targeted surveillance by Spanish officers. The Interior Ministry said the operation followed a joint investigation with Swedish authorities that began in June 2025 as part of a cross-border probe into organised crime.

Officials added that the suspect had close links to a notorious Swedish criminal figure often described in media reports as the "Pablo Escobar of Sweden." Spanish authorities gave few further public details about the operation.

The suspect remains in custody while Spanish and Swedish authorities coordinate next steps, including legal procedures and potential extradition.
