Latisha Collier, 39, a former Love After Lockup cast member and operator of Boss Tax and Accounting Services in Davenport, Iowa, received concurrent 15-year sentences after pleading guilty to second-degree theft and forgery. One conviction stems from allegations she kept a client’s $8,788 intended for federal and state tax payments; the other involves using a longtime client’s identity and tax documents to obtain rental housing. Collier must serve at least three years before parole eligibility. The case underscores the importance of keeping records, receipts and confirmation of tax payments when working with preparers.

Latisha Collier, 39, a former cast member of Love After Lockup who ran Boss Tax and Accounting Services in Davenport, Iowa, was sentenced to concurrent 15-year prison terms after pleading guilty to charges tied to theft of tax payments and forgery in a housing application, according to local reports and court records.

Details of the Cases

Prosecutors say one case involved a client who entrusted Collier with $8,788 to pay federal and state tax liabilities. Investigators told KWQC that the payment was never forwarded to the IRS or state tax agency; the client discovered the missing payment only after the IRS began assessing penalties on the unpaid balance. Police later seized business records and electronic devices and charged Collier with felony theft; she pleaded guilty to second-degree theft in that matter.

In a separate case, authorities allege Collier applied for rental housing in March 2024 and, after being denied, submitted another application months later for a LeClaire property using a longtime client’s identification, Social Security number, and tax documents. Officials say she then signed the lease using that person’s identity; Collier pleaded guilty to forgery in that case.

Sentence, Custody And Context

WFLX reported Collier received concurrent 15-year sentences for the forgery and theft convictions, which means she will serve an effective 15-year term. She must serve at least three years before becoming eligible for parole, with credit for time already spent in custody. After sentencing she remained in the Scott County Jail awaiting transfer to the Iowa Correctional Institution for Women in Mitchellville. Collier’s reality-TV background broadened public attention, but the convictions stem from alleged financial crimes against clients of her tax and bookkeeping business.

Why This Matters To Taxpayers

Investigators said one victim had used Collier as a business and tax accountant for about a decade, giving her access to both personal and commercial records. The case highlights how much sensitive information clients hand over to preparers: Social Security numbers, business records, tax returns and sometimes money intended for the government.

Practical takeaways: Keep copies of all tax returns and documents, obtain written invoices and receipts for payments, ask for confirmation numbers and proof of submission, and only work with preparers who provide a Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN).

Reporting Misconduct And Protecting Yourself

Taxpayers who suspect a preparer failed to forward tax payments, misused documents, filed returns without authorization, altered forms, or withheld records can report preparer misconduct to the IRS. Victims of identity misuse should preserve lease and application records, tax documents, messages, payment receipts, credit reports, collection notices and any police reports related to the identity theft.
