Tiny Sheepdog Becomes Hero — Herds Goats to Clear Landing Zone for Laguna Beach Rescue

A small white sheepdog in the foothills above Laguna Beach unexpectedly helped first responders by herding a flock of goats off a trail so a rescue helicopter could land safely, officials said.
Laguna Beach Police and Fire Department personnel were called to the area on Friday. Drone footage posted to the department's social media shows the quick-thinking pup running ahead of a large herd and guiding the animals away from the intended landing zone while ground crews worked to clear the trail.
“The sheepdog stepped up and helped guide a group of goats out of the way so the units could work,”
The video captures a close-up of the white dog with its tail wagging as it leads dozens of young goats to higher ground, opening the route for rescuers. With the path cleared, crews were able to continue preparing the site for the helicopter to touch down.
Officials did not disclose the nature of the emergency in their post, and no additional details were released at the time.
The department praised the animal in its post: “That’s a good boy.” Viewers reacted warmly in the comments, calling the dog a hero and leaving remarks such as “Hero,” “Nicely done,” and “Good dog.”
Why it mattered: The short clip is a reminder that working animals and quick thinking—by both people and animals—can play unexpected roles in helping emergency responders do their jobs safely and efficiently.
