A 49-year-old man has been sentenced to seven years and six months after chasing and repeatedly stabbing a stranger following an argument in Nottingham city centre.

What Happened

On the early morning of 22 November 2025, a 21-year-old man and his girlfriend were waiting for an Uber on Angel Row when they saw 49-year-old Shaki Robinson acting aggressively towards a woman, Nottinghamshire Police said. After intervening, an argument broke out and Robinson chased the man onto Beastmarket Hill, stabbing him in the lower back, cheek and shoulder as he tried to flee.

Arrest and Evidence

Officers arriving at the scene found the victim seated on the ground with slash wounds. CCTV footage showed Robinson continuing through Angel Row into Hurt's Yard while still carrying a knife, before discarding a Stanley knife that was later recovered by police. Robinson was arrested in Wollaton Street after resisting arrest; officers said he punched one officer in the head and was eventually restrained with the help of members of the public.

Charges and Sentence

Robinson, of Radford Road, Nottingham, admitted multiple offences and was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court to seven years and six months. He pleaded guilty to wounding with intent and possession of a knife in a public place, and also admitted assaulting an emergency worker and possession with intent to supply cocaine. During the investigation he further admitted possession of heroin and cannabis.

Detective Constable Natalie Gooderham said: "A number of people enjoying a night out unwittingly became involved in this incident. Robinson not only violently attacked the victim but proceeded to walk through the city centre brandishing a knife. It must have been frightening to witness and we're grateful to the members of the public who bravely intervened by assisting officers to both detain Robinson and recover the knife."

The court heard that officers recovered the discarded knife and found wraps of suspected Class A drugs hidden in a sock in Robinson's pockets, alongside large amounts of cash. Robinson admitted the attack days before his scheduled trial.

Location: Angel Row, Beastmarket Hill, Hurt's Yard and Wollaton Street, Nottingham.
