Amanda "Mandy" Karolkiewicz, 39, and her six children were found dead at their Grand Haven Township home after an apparent murder‑suicide on July 24, 2026, authorities said. She said she spent a year feeling "self-loathing" but ultimately decided not to let herself be the only person punished for his choices. For the children's sake, she wrote that she and Kristopher worked toward rebuilding their relationship and that she tried to "fake it 'till we made it" as they sought a healthier family dynamic.

Ottawa County Sheriff's Capt. Jacob Sparks said investigators are continuing to work to understand the motive and the events that led to the deaths, calling the incident "an unspeakable tragedy." "This is an unspeakable tragedy, that we may never completely understand why it happened. But we will do our best to find the answers and to honor the memory of those victims," Capt. Sparks said.
