Pablo Zuriel Miranda, 32, who escaped from the Atkinson County Jail in Pearson early Sunday, was recaptured Tuesday morning after a two-day manhunt, authorities said.

Escape, Search and Capture

Atkinson County Sheriff David Moore reported that Miranda broke out of the jail at about 6:30 a.m. on Sunday. Federal authorities joined the search Monday, and the FBI offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to his arrest. Investigators also released images of tattoos believed to be linked to Miranda to help identify him while he was on the run.

The FBI said Miranda was believed to be capable of attempting to flee toward Mexico and could use routes through Atlanta or other corridors to escape. Local, state and federal agencies — including the Atkinson County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation — coordinated the search effort.

Charges and Warnings

Miranda was being held in pretrial detention on state charges of murder and aggravated assault. After his escape, he was charged with felony escape in Atkinson County and a federal arrest warrant was issued. Authorities repeatedly warned that Miranda should be considered armed and dangerous and urged the public not to approach him if spotted.

Sheriff Moore posted a photo on Facebook Tuesday showing Miranda seated in the back of a vehicle and apparently handcuffed. According to the FBI, Miranda was captured in Pearson and is now in custody in Atkinson County. Additional details about the circumstances of the arrest have not yet been released.

Public Reminder: Anyone with information about the escape or Miranda’s whereabouts before his capture was urged to contact local law enforcement or the FBI. Do not attempt to confront a suspect who is considered armed and dangerous.
