Sara Gilson, a social‑media influencer, filed multiple protective orders against her estranged husband Jeremiah "Shawn" Duffey in the weeks before police say he shot her and then killed himself at her Owasso, Oklahoma, home on July 23. Gilson obtained an emergency protective order on June 10 that was extended through Aug. 24. On the same day, another protective order was filed alleging Duffey sexually abused a 15‑year‑old player he coached. Local reporting and court records cited by People, KTUL and The Oklahoman provide the details; the allegations remain unproven in court.
Influencer Sara Gilson Sought Emergency Protective Order A Month Before Apparent Murder‑Suicide Amid Allegations Against Husband

Influencer Sara Gilson filed multiple protective orders against her estranged husband, Jeremiah "Shawn" Duffey, in the weeks before police say he fatally shot her and then killed himself at her home in Owasso, Oklahoma.
What Happened
Authorities discovered Gilson, 43, and Duffey, 48, with gunshot wounds inside Gilson's residence at about 11:15 p.m. on July 23, according to local station KTUL. A child living in the home placed the 911 call that prompted responders to the scene. Police say Duffey shot Gilson and then fatally shot himself; a family member later identified the victims.
Protective Orders And Allegations
Court records reviewed by People show Gilson had sought legal protections against Duffey on multiple occasions. In 2021 she filed two protective orders that were later dismissed after she did not appear at a hearing, The Oklahoman reported. In that earlier filing she alleged Duffey possessed a firearm, threatened suicide and "went on the run," according to the outlet.
On June 10, less than two months before the deaths, Gilson obtained an emergency protective order that required Duffey to leave the home immediately and to stay at least 100 yards away. That order was extended on June 23 to remain in effect through Aug. 24, per court records.
Separate Protective Order Alleging Abuse Of A Minor
The same day Gilson filed the June emergency order, a different woman filed a separate protective order against Duffey on behalf of her 15‑year‑old daughter, who played on a youth basketball team he coached. The mother alleged Duffey kissed and touched the teenager before another coach intervened, The Oklahoman reported. The teen also told her mother Duffey sent messages, invited her to his hotel room during a tournament and offered money to "keep her quiet," according to the filing. That protective order was also extended through Aug. 24.
Social Media Accusation
Less than two weeks before the deaths, Gilson posted a TikTok in which she described her soon‑to‑be ex‑husband as a "pedophile," referencing a popular TikTok trend that parodies a sit‑down documentary interview. In the video she wrote, "Preparing for when Netflix drops a documentary about my soon to be ex husband who I just found out is a pedophile," and added the caption, "I wish I was joking."
Reporting And Resources
Local outlets KTUL and The Oklahoman reported details of the case; People reviewed the relevant court records. The allegations involving the minor are described in court filings and have not been proven in court. As with all such reports, alleged misconduct should be considered unproven unless confirmed through legal proceedings.
