Fifteen people were arrested in a human trafficking operation carried out by the Shelby County Drug Enforcement Task Force on Thursday, July 23. Among those taken into custody was Robert Aaron Suttles, identified in court records as the Director of Content for Yea Alabama, the official Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) collective that supports University of Alabama student-athletes.

Operation, Charges and Booking

Authorities say the arrests were made pursuant to alleged violations of Alabama Criminal Code § 13A-12-121. Court documents cited by local outlets indicate Suttles faces a charge of solicitation/commission of prostitution. All 15 suspects were booked into the Shelby County Jail following the operation.

Officials also reported that one person arrested during the sweep faces additional drug-related charges, including unlawful possession of controlled substances involving methamphetamine and cocaine, and second-degree unlawful possession of marijuana.

Yea Alabama Response

Yea Alabama — the NIL collective that facilitates Name, Image and Likeness opportunities for University of Alabama student-athletes — issued a brief statement following the arrests.

"The individual is suspended and is not performing any work for us. The matter involves personal conduct unconnected to any Yea Alabama business. A legal proceeding is pending and our internal review is ongoing, so we have no further comment."

Law Enforcement Statement

Shelby County Drug Enforcement Task Force Commander Lt. Clayton Smith: "We will not tolerate the victimization of vulnerable women here in Shelby County. I believe that no woman wakes up each morning and chooses to sell their bodies because they just want to. There is always an underlying reason that they feel they have to do this to live and have no other option. We have a duty to protect them just like any other citizen. I want to thank the investigators for their passion and work in this operation."

The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities have not released additional details about possible connections among those arrested or further evidence. As with all arrests, these allegations are accusations; all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
