Donald Trump has paid E. Jean Carroll about $5.6 million following a 2023 jury verdict that found he sexually assaulted and defamed her in 1996. The payment includes the $5 million award plus accrued interest. Trump denies the allegations, and his appeals to block the payout failed. Carroll, 82, will initially invest the funds while related appeals and a separate $83 million judgment await potential Supreme Court review.
Trump Pays E. Jean Carroll $5.6M After 2023 Verdict — Supreme Court Appeals Still Pending

Three years after a New York jury found that Donald Trump sexually assaulted and defamed writer E. Jean Carroll, court records show Carroll has received about $5.6 million in satisfaction of that judgment.
The amount reflects the $5 million in damages ordered by the jury in 2023 plus accrued interest, according to court documents and Carroll’s attorney. The 2023 trial concluded the alleged assault occurred in 1996 at an upscale Manhattan department store and that Trump later defamed Carroll.
Trump has repeatedly denied Carroll’s allegations. Criminal prosecution was barred by the statute of limitations, but Carroll pursued civil claims that remained available and led to the 2023 verdict. Trump’s attempts to overturn the verdict and block payment through post-trial appeals were unsuccessful.
Because related matters remain under review at the US Supreme Court, Carroll, who is 82, plans to initially invest the funds, her lawyer said. A separate ruling in which Carroll was awarded roughly $83 million from Trump is likewise awaiting possible Supreme Court action.
What This Means
Payment completed: The $5.6 million payout resolves the 2023 jury award plus interest, for now. Legal review continues: Further, larger awards and some legal questions tied to the cases remain unresolved as they move through appeals and the Supreme Court.
