Capt. Shahar Gamla, 23, from Natur, a deputy company commander in the Egoz Unit of the IDF’s Commando Brigade, was fatally wounded on Thursday after sustaining severe injuries from a suspected aerial strike while fighting in southern Lebanon.
Sgt. Ohad Yaari, 21, from Rehovot, a soldier in the Shaked Battalion of the Givati Brigade, was killed during operational activity in the same area. Following Yaari’s death, the military police launched an investigation; its findings will be forwarded to the Military Attorney‑General's Office when complete.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued condolences, describing Gamla and Yaari as "among our finest sons" and praising their "supreme heroism" in defending northern communities and the citizens of Israel.
The IDF continues operations in the area and has released limited details while investigations and operational assessments proceed. Further information will be provided by the military as inquiries advance.
