Human remains were found this week on a Boyle County property connected to the 1992 disappearance of 23-year-old Anna Manning. The discovery follows indictments and arrests obtained May 19, 2026, for Anna’s husband, Anthony Manning, and his mother, Barbara Manning. The remains will be sent to a forensic lab for identification; officials say no formal ID will be released until testing is complete and next of kin are notified. Authorities continue to investigate and ask anyone with information to come forward.
Human Remains Found on Boyle County Property Linked to 1992 Disappearance of Anna Manning After Arrests

Human remains were recovered this week from a Boyle County property tied to the 1992 disappearance of Anna Manning, authorities announced, a development that comes days after indictments and arrests in the long-unsolved case.
Recent Developments
The remains were located on land at 148 Spring Valley Road in Danville and will be transported to a forensic laboratory for further examination and identification, the Boyle County Sheriff’s Office said. Officials emphasized that no formal identification will be released until laboratory results are complete and next of kin have been notified.
The discovery followed the May 19, 2026, indictments obtained by Detective Ray of the Boyle County Sheriff’s Office. Prosecutors charged Anthony Manning, Anna’s husband, with murder, tampering with physical evidence and abuse of a corpse. Anthony’s mother, Barbara Manning, was charged with complicity to murder, complicity to tampering with physical evidence and complicity to abuse of a corpse. Both are being held at the Boyle County Detention Center on $2 million cash bonds.

Law enforcement, county emergency management and public works crews responded to the more-than-5-acre property following the arrests. Observers reported that public works personnel used an excavator and that several dug areas were visible across the parcel. The same property was previously searched in 2016 after a warrant was served, but that search yielded no findings at the time.
Case Background
Anna Manning was 23 when she was last seen on Nov. 19, 1992, in Junction City, Kentucky, according to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs). Although she disappeared in 1992, authorities say she was not formally reported missing until Feb. 25, 1994.
Records in the case file include an earlier 1995 incident in which Anthony reportedly turned himself in after Anna signed a kidnapping warrant. NamUs and archived reporting say Anthony allegedly arrived at his estranged wife’s apartment with their daughter, handcuffed Anna and led her out a back door before she escaped and contacted police; he later served 192 days in jail in connection with that episode.
Ongoing Investigation
The Boyle County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation remains active and urged anyone with information to contact investigators. Authorities reiterated that they have not confirmed whether the recovered remains belong to Anna. PEOPLE has reached out to the Boyle County Sheriff’s Office for comment.
