The ULA Atlas V is scheduled to launch 29 Amazon Leo broadband satellites tonight from Cape Canaveral during a 29-minute window opening at 8:52 p.m. EDT (00:52 GMT April 28). Amazon Leo 6 is the sixth mission in Amazon's effort to build a >3,200-satellite low Earth orbit internet constellation. Nine of the planned 80+ launches have occurred so far; Atlas V has flown five of them. Live streams begin about 20 minutes before liftoff via Space.com and ULA.

A United Launch Alliance (ULA) Atlas V rocket is set to place 29 of Amazon's internet satellites into low Earth orbit tonight, April 27. The mission, designated Amazon Leo 6, will lift off from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station during a 29-minute window that opens at 8:52 p.m. EDT (00:52 GMT on April 28).

Mission Overview

Amazon Leo 6 is the sixth dedicated flight to build Amazon's broadband constellation — formerly known as Project Kuiper. When complete, the Amazon Leo network aims to deploy more than 3,200 satellites to provide global internet coverage and to compete with SpaceX's Starlink.

Why This Launch Matters

Completing the full Amazon Leo constellation will require more than 80 launches using a variety of rockets. So far nine launches have delivered satellites: five by Atlas V, three by SpaceX's Falcon 9 and one by Arianespace's Ariane 6. Arianespace is scheduled to add another Amazon Leo launch from French Guiana early on April 28.

The first four Atlas V Amazon Leo missions carried 27 satellites. Amazon Leo 5, which launched on April 4, increased that number to 29 and set a new Atlas V payload milestone by lofting an 18-ton cargo. Amazon Leo 6 will also launch 29 satellites and is expected to match that heavy-payload performance.
