Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez will visit China from April 11–15 for his fourth trip in four years as Spain looks to deepen trade and diplomatic ties. He will meet President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang and top legislator Zhao Leji, Chinese officials said. The visit follows a state visit by King Felipe last November and reflects unusually close engagement despite wider Western caution. Beijing says it hopes to use the trip to deepen strategic trust and multilateral cooperation.
Pedro Sánchez to Make Fourth China Visit in Four Years as Spain Pushes to Deepen Trade Ties

BEIJING — Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez will travel to China from April 11 to April 15 for his fourth visit in as many years, officials confirmed on Wednesday. The trip underscores Madrid's effort to strengthen commercial and diplomatic ties with the world's second-largest economy.
During the visit, Sánchez is scheduled to meet with President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang and top legislator Zhao Leji, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry said. The meetings are aimed at expanding trade, intensifying political dialogue and exploring closer multilateral coordination between the two countries.
Sánchez previously visited China in April 2025, September 2024 and March 2023. King Felipe also paid a state visit to China last November — the first by a Spanish monarch in 18 years — signaling a notably warm period in bilateral engagement despite broader caution from many European capitals and the United States toward Beijing.
Mao Ning, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson: "China is willing to work with Spain to take Prime Minister Sánchez's visit as an opportunity to further deepen strategic mutual trust, intensify exchanges and cooperation, strengthen multilateral coordination, and push bilateral relations to new heights."
The itinerary, announced in Beijing, comes as Madrid looks to consolidate trade links and increase diplomatic cooperation with China. Reporting by Ryan Woo and Ethan Wang; editing by Kevin Liffey.
