Quebec’s Superior Court has barred a father and son from donating sperm after a woman alleged their donations produced more than 600 children or pregnancies. Court filings say Philippe Normand’s donations are linked to about 162 children across roughly 90 families, while his son Dominik Seelos’ donations are linked to about 451. The plaintiff says she was promised limits on donations and later learned the two are biologically related; the men contested the claims but denied making such agreements. The order prohibits donations, contact with recipients, and requires clinics be notified.

A Quebec court has permanently barred a father and son from donating sperm after a woman alleged their donations resulted in more than 600 children or pregnancies. Legal documents filed in French in Quebec’s Superior Court on March 18, obtained by PEOPLE, say the plaintiff — identified only as a mother of four — accused Philippe Normand and his son, Dominik Seelos, of supplying sperm to help her conceive outside regulated fertility clinics.

Allegations and Promises

According to the filing, the woman claims both men misrepresented how many children had already been conceived using their donations and promised to limit the number of families or children who would receive their reproductive material. The documents say Normand agreed to cap donations at a maximum of 10 families (with an exception to complete families already started), and Seelos agreed to a limit of 25 children, also with carve-outs.

“These promises influenced the plaintiff’s decision to use their reproductive material,” the translated documents state.

Timeline and Discovery

The plaintiff alleges her first three children were conceived between 2009 and 2012 using Normand’s sperm, and her fourth child was conceived in 2017 using Seelos’ sperm. Years later, she says she discovered Normand is biologically Seelos’ father — a detail she alleges had been concealed — which prompted further investigation into the men’s donation history.

She claims that Normand’s donations led to at least 162 children or pregnancies across roughly 90 families, and that Seelos’ donations resulted in about 451 children or pregnancies, for a combined total of more than 600.

Court Ruling

The mother requested a permanent court order to stop both men from supplying sperm to third parties. Although Normand and Seelos contested the request, denying they made specific commitments to the woman and not admitting the allegations, the court granted the order.

The judgment prohibits the two men from providing sperm to any third party, from contacting or advertising to potential recipients, and requires copies of the ruling be provided to the clinics where they made donations. A spokesperson for Quebec’s Superior Court told PEOPLE that judges and court-affiliated staff cannot comment on a judgment. It is not clear from the filings whether Normand or Seelos have legal representation who could comment on their behalf.

Context

The case highlights legal and ethical issues around informal sperm donation outside regulated clinic settings, including limits on the number of offspring per donor, disclosure obligations, and the rights of recipients to accurate information. The matter appears to remain a civil dispute in Quebec’s Superior Court.
