CNN Türk Reporters Detained Live in Tel Aviv After Security Forces Interrupt Broadcast Near IDF Headquarters

Two members of CNN Türk’s news team — reporter Emrah Çakmak and cameraman Halil Kahraman — were detained in Tel Aviv on Tuesday after Israeli security forces interrupted their live broadcast near the IDF’s Kirya military headquarters.
The journalists were reporting on the immediate aftermath of reported missile strikes from Iran, including footage of civilians emerging from bomb shelters, when officers approached and cut the live transmission short. Video of the incident circulated online showing security personnel moving in on the pair while they were on air.
CNN Türk, the regional affiliate of the U.S. cable news network, later posted an update saying both staffers were arrested and that their mobile phones were confiscated. The Times of Israel reported that when officers ordered the reporters to identify themselves, they produced expired press identification and were subsequently detained.
After the arrests, cameraman Halil Kahraman used a borrowed phone to contact Murat Yancı, head of the Demirören Media TV Group, which licenses the CNN Türk brand. Kahraman told Yancı they were in good health but confirmed their devices had been taken and that they remained in custody.
The incident occurred as parts of Israel remained on high alert following reported missile fire from Iran. CNN Türk and other outlets have posted video of the detention; authorities and the network may provide further updates as the situation develops.
