What began as a New Year’s Day medical call at a Louisiana gas station ended with a 5-year-old boy dead and his parents arrested on charges linked to alleged neglect, the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office said.
The child: Marley Perilloux, 5, was found unresponsive at a Geismar gas station around 9 p.m. on Jan. 1. Deputies on the scene began performing CPR while awaiting emergency medical services. Marley was rushed to a nearby hospital but was later pronounced dead.
Investigation and Home Search
Detectives with the sheriff’s Juvenile Unit opened an investigation after observing apparent injuries and signs of severe malnourishment. Investigators executed a search warrant at the family home and described the living conditions as "barely livable." According to the sheriff’s office, Marley weighed approximately 19 pounds at the time of his death.
Charges
Marley’s parents, Marlon Perilloux, 33, and Raynisa Young, 27, were arrested and face multiple charges, including negligent homicide and second-degree cruelty to juveniles. Authorities also charged the pair with several drug- and weapons-related offenses, including possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and illegal carrying of weapons.
Current Status
Both Marlon Perilloux and Raynisa Young were booked into the Ascension Parish Jail without bond. It was not immediately clear whether they had entered pleas or retained legal counsel.
