Human Remains in Minden Township Identified As Man Missing Since 2019

Human remains discovered last month on a wooded property in Minden Township, Minnesota, have been identified as Timothy Scott Strand, who was reported missing in 2019, authorities said.
According to a news release from the Benton County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO), the remains were located on the 1500 block of East St. Germain Street. Detectives, assisted by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA), collected the remains and other evidence at the scene. The recovered material was taken to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office for examination and positive identification.
Strand, a Cokato resident, was reported missing by a family member on June 17, 2019. He was last known to be in St. Cloud on May 8, 2019 and was 62 years old when he disappeared, the BCSO said.
Tips and Follow-Up
In April 2025, the Wright County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) said Strand’s son reported concern after his father stopped communicating with his mother. Investigators received a tip that Strand may have been staying at homeless encampments in St. Cloud and that he might have been using his middle name, "Scott." Law enforcement checked local shelters but found no contact records for him.
Investigation Ongoing
The BCSO confirmed the remains belong to Timothy Scott Strand but said the cause and manner of death have not yet been determined. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding his disappearance and the discovery of the remains.
What We Know: The remains were recovered with assistance from the BCA, identified by the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office, and linked to a 2019 missing-person report. No determination on cause or manner of death has been released.
