Delta Restores Operations at Detroit Metropolitan Airport

Delta Air Lines said on Friday it has resumed operations at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport after a short ground stop that temporarily halted all Delta departures from the hub. The carrier attributed the pause to a technical connectivity issue and said teams were working to safely return to normal operations.

To assist affected travelers, Delta issued a travel waiver for passengers transiting through Detroit on Friday and Saturday. According to FlightAware, the disruption led to 36 cancellations and 97 delays.

The Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport noted on X that the problem was isolated to Delta flights. Detroit is one of Delta's largest hubs, with service to 106 destinations worldwide, according to the airline.

A ground stop is an air-traffic control measure that temporarily prevents aircraft from departing for a specific airport or region, usually imposed for safety, weather or operational reasons.

“We apologize for the inconvenience to our customers and thank them for their patience as Delta teams work to safely return to normal operations,” Delta said.
