James Farthing, 51, the Kentucky man who won a $167.3 million Powerball jackpot in April 2025, has been cited for public intoxication after police found him asleep in a running vehicle early on Sept. 20, according to an arrest citation and police reports.
Details Of The Incident
The Georgetown Police Department responded to a report of a white Mustang stopped in the middle of the Cherry Blossom Way and Connector Road intersection. The vehicle later pulled into an EV charging station, where officers say they found the Mustang running and Farthing asleep in the passenger seat at about 2:57 a.m.
Police say Farthing woke only after officers knocked on the vehicle for several minutes. Officers reported smelling alcohol and marijuana on Farthing and inside the car, and noted that he had "bloodshot, watery eyes," slurred speech and was unsteady on his feet, using the vehicle for balance. He was cited for alcohol intoxication in a public place and taken to the Scott County Detention Center.
Discrepancy In Account
Farthing told officers that a woman had driven him to the parking area and left, but police say surveillance footage did not show anyone exiting the vehicle before officers arrived. It was not immediately clear whether Farthing remained in custody or when he will next appear in court.
