CNN, citing two U.S. officials and a satellite-tracking analysis, reported that Iranian drone and missile strikes on U.S. bases during Operation Epic Fury may have been aided by Russian reconnaissance satellites. The network said several Russian spacecraft reportedly overflew locations with U.S. forces shortly before attacks, including the March 27 strike on Prince Sultan Air Base.
The Prince Sultan attack, the report states, injured 12 U.S. service members. CNN also reported that a U.S. Air Force AWACS aircraft was destroyed in the operation; the story links the precision of the strikes to the possible use of space-based intelligence.
