A Los Angeles County grand jury has indicted Nick Reiner on two counts of first‑degree murder in the December deaths of his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner. Prosecutors allege Reiner stabbed the couple in their Brentwood home and then fled; he was arrested soon after and remains jailed without bail. The indictment includes a special circumstance of "lying in wait," and Reiner has pleaded not guilty. If convicted and if prosecutors seek capital punishment, he could face the death penalty.
Grand Jury Indicts Nick Reiner On First‑Degree Murder Charges In Parents' Deaths

A Los Angeles County grand jury has returned an indictment charging Nick Reiner with two counts of first‑degree murder in the December deaths of his parents, director Rob Reiner and photographer Michele Singer Reiner, the district attorney's office said Wednesday.
Prosecutors told the grand jury they believe Reiner stabbed the couple inside their Brentwood home and then fled the scene. He was arrested shortly afterward and remains jailed without bail. The formal indictment alleges each killing was committed "by means of lying in wait," a special circumstance that can increase potential penalties.
Reiner has pleaded not guilty to the charges. If convicted — and if prosecutors decide to pursue capital punishment — he could face the death penalty; however, prosecutors have not publicly confirmed whether they will seek that sentence. An indictment is a formal charge and the allegations have not been proven in court.
"This was a profound betrayal by someone who was loved and trusted by the very people he is accused of killing," Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said in a statement. He added that the grand jury's decision brings the case one step closer to trial and to seeking justice for the victims.
Rob Reiner was widely regarded as a film industry luminary, known for popular and enduring films such as When Harry Met Sally and The Princess Bride. Michele Singer Reiner worked as a photographer. The community and the film industry have expressed shock at their deaths.
The case will proceed through the criminal justice process. Court dates and further procedural steps will be set as the matter moves toward trial unless a plea or other resolution occurs.
