A toddler in Boulder, Colorado, was found alone on a second-floor balcony around 10:30 p.m. on July 28, wearing only a diaper and calling for help. Officers reached the child by climbing a fence and a patrol car, finding her unharmed but next to a reported large amount of marijuana and paraphernalia. The child was cared for at the police station and then returned to her mother in Denver; authorities have not released the suspect’s name or formal charges.

A Boulder, Colorado, father is facing charges after officers found his toddler daughter alone and calling for help from a second-floor balcony late at night.

The Boulder Police Department says a 911 call came in at about 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28, reporting a young child wearing only a diaper standing on a second-floor balcony and calling for help. Responding officers rushed to the scene but discovered the front door was locked; the child was too young to open it.

Body-worn camera footage released by police shows officers climbing a fence and standing on a patrol car to reach the balcony. They located the child unharmed but within reach of what officers described as a "large amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia."

Officers contacted the girl’s father, who reportedly told them the child had been asleep when he left briefly to get food. Police say the man then "refused to return" to the residence while officers were on the scene.

Police changed the girl’s diaper, got her dressed, and brought her to the police station, where they cared for her until they were able to reach her mother. Officers later transported the child to her mother’s home in Denver.

The following night, investigators say they located the father at a local bar. Officers allege he had a large amount of cash and about 15 grams of fentanyl in his pockets. Authorities have not yet released the suspect’s name or detailed the specific charges he faces.

“We’re glad this sweet child wasn’t hurt and we hope she only remembers the kindness of everyone who helped her this week,” the Boulder Police Department said in a statement.

The investigation remains active as police determine charges and next steps. No additional information about the family’s situation has been released.
