Police in Twin Falls, Idaho, confirmed Saturday evening that multiple people were killed and others wounded after reports of an active shooter near the In-N-Out Burger on Blue Lakes Boulevard.
Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks said at a news conference that investigators could not yet provide an exact count of fatalities or injuries while authorities worked to notify next of kin. Hicks added that the suspected shooter was also found dead and that police believe there is no ongoing threat to the community.
What Happened
Officers responded to calls of shots fired at the In-N-Out at 2:29 p.m. Saturday. Multiple local and regional law-enforcement agencies converged on the scene near a busy shopping area; Hicks described the situation as "an exceptionally chaotic scene" with potentially hundreds of people nearby when the shooting occurred.
Response And Medical Care
Several people were transported to St. Luke's Magic Valley Medical Center for treatment. First responders and law enforcement secured the area, and authorities closed the vicinity around the restaurant and the nearby Twin Falls Visitor Center while they processed the scene and interviewed witnesses.
Investigation Underway
Investigators are working to identify the suspected shooter and determine a motive. The FBI said it is aware of the incident and has offered assistance to local law enforcement. Police asked anyone with information or video of the shooting to come forward to aid the investigation.
In a social-media statement, Idaho Gov. Brad Little asked residents to pray for those affected as law enforcement and first responders worked the scene.
