The State Department will broaden distribution of a limited-edition "Patriot Passport" featuring a portrait of President Donald Trump on the inside cover, adding 250,000 copies for applicants nationwide. The commemorative booklets, produced for the nation’s 250th anniversary, began issuing in early July at the Washington, D.C., passport agency. Special in-person application events are set for August and September at passport offices around the U.S.; applicants who prefer the standard design can still apply by mail, online, at acceptance facilities or at embassies and consulates. Officials said demand has been high, with more than 30,000 calls to the passport center since July 4.
State Dept. Expands 'Patriot Passport' — 250,000 Trump-Commemorative Passports To Be Available Nationwide

The U.S. Department of State will expand distribution of a limited-edition commemorative passport — the so-called "Patriot Passport" — featuring President Donald Trump’s portrait and printed signature on the inside cover. The department says an additional 250,000 copies will be made available at special in-person application events across the country.
Background
The commemorative booklet, created to mark America’s 250th anniversary with what the State Department described as "customized artwork and enhanced imagery," shows a stone-faced President Trump leaning over the Resolute Desk with his printed signature beneath the image. Officials first unveiled the edition in the spring; an earlier mock-up used a different portrait.
Where And How To Apply
The department began issuing the special passport in early July to applicants who applied in person at the Washington, D.C., passport agency. In response to what it called "overwhelming demand," officials announced the additional 250,000 passports will be available at designated "250th Anniversary commemorative passport application events" scheduled at passport agencies around the United States in August and September.
Applicants will not receive the commemorative design automatically. To obtain the Patriot Passport, travelers must apply in person at one of the special events or obtain a passport in person at the Washington, D.C., passport office. Applicants who prefer the standard design may apply by mail, submit an online application, use an acceptance facility such as a post office or library, or apply at a U.S. embassy or consulate abroad.
Options For Washington, D.C., Applicants
Those applying in person at the D.C. passport office may choose an alternate, larger passport book that retains the existing design without the president’s image if they do not want the commemorative version.
"In response to overwhelming demand, the Department of State is making an additional 250,000 of the special commemorative passports available to the public," the agency said. "Americans all across the country will now have the opportunity to apply for one of these additional special passports, known as the 'Patriot Passport.'"
The department also noted that a rendering of the proposed passport was posted to President Trump’s Truth Social account on June 26, 2026, with the caption: "The U.S.A.'s New Passport, which says, 'Welcome, but be good!' President DJT."
A State Department spokesperson said the office "have been flooded — by phone, on social media, and in-person at events like the Great American State Fair — by inquiries and requests to apply for the Patriot Passport." The spokesperson added that more than 30,000 Americans had called the passport call center seeking a chance to apply since July 4.
What To Know: The commemorative passports are optional, limited in quantity, and require an in-person application at designated events or the Washington, D.C., passport agency. Standard application channels continue to offer the traditional passport design.
