Princess Charlene and Prince Albert II of Monaco issued a rare joint statement offering support to people affected by wildfires in France, Spain and the UK, praising firefighters and rescue teams. Authorities say roughly 360,000 people were evacuated in France and Spain, with about 84,000 cleared to return; a Cairngorms fire in Scotland has burned about 10 square miles. Prince Albert linked the blazes to climate disruption and urged collective action, while Prince William also thanked emergency crews and highlighted the need for urgent environmental solutions.

Princess Charlene and Prince Albert II of Monaco have issued a rare joint statement expressing solidarity with communities hit by the severe wildfires across Europe.

"As violent fires affect numerous regions of the world, notably in France, Spain, and the United Kingdom, Princess Charlene joins me in extending our most sincere support to all those suffering the consequences. Our thoughts are with the affected families, those forced to leave their homes, and all communities mobilised in the face of this ordeal," the palace said in a translated statement from Prince Albert II.

The couple praised the "remarkable courage" of firefighters, rescue teams and volunteers working on the front lines. Prince Albert warned that the blazes are harming precious natural habitats and fragile biodiversity, and said the fires are in part driven by major climate disruptions that "more than ever call for courageous responses."

Authorities report that about 360,000 people were evacuated across France and Spain after the fires spread last week. Southwest France has been especially hard hit, with some reports estimating an area burned roughly four times the size of Paris; as of Thursday, about 84,000 people who had been displaced were allowed to return home. In Scotland, a blaze in the Cairngorms that began on 15 July has burned an estimated 10 square miles, and firefighters have warned of possible flare-ups.

"Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the devastating wildfires across France, Spain and the UK," the Prince of Wales wrote on Instagram, thanking emergency crews and volunteers working in extraordinarily difficult conditions.

Prince William — like his father King Charles, a long-time advocate for environmental action — linked the fires to the broader challenge of an increasingly extreme climate and highlighted the need to protect both people and nature. He framed his Earthshot Prize initiative as driven by "urgent optimism": the belief that solutions exist and must be pursued quickly and boldly.

The combined royal messages underline both the immediate human toll of the blazes and the wider environmental stakes, offering public support to affected communities and praise for emergency workers while calling for collective, urgent action on climate and conservation.
