The Jalsa Salana UK will proceed in Alton, Hampshire this weekend despite a recent security alert that forced a separate gathering to end early. Organisers expect more than 50,000 attendees from over 100 countries to mark the convention's 60th anniversary, supported by nearly 5,000 volunteers. A YouGov poll for the Ahmadiyya community found 77% of Britons think the country is more divided than five years ago, and 56% say the contributions of British Muslims are not widely recognised.
Britain’s Biggest Muslim Gathering to Go Ahead in Hampshire After Security Alert

The Jalsa Salana UK, Britain’s largest annual Muslim convention, is set to proceed in Alton, Hampshire this weekend despite a recent security alert that forced a similar gathering to finish early. Organisers expect more than 50,000 attendees from over 100 countries for the event’s 60th anniversary, supported by nearly 5,000 volunteers.
About the Jalsa Salana
The Jalsa Salana is an annual convention hosted by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. This year marks its 60th anniversary, and the organisers say delegates and visitors will travel from around the world to attend speeches, prayers and community activities. The convention’s keynote address will be delivered by the community’s global leader and caliph, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad.
Security And Recent Events
The convention opens on Friday, less than two weeks after thousands at the UK Ijtima at Shrubland Hall near Ipswich were told to leave early on 12 July amid reports of an alleged extreme right‑wing threat. Police have arrested 13 people in relation to that inquiry and say investigations are ongoing after being alerted to what they described as "a potential serious threat".
Jalsa Salana organisers have emphasised that they have "extensive measures in place" to protect attendees. The UK security team says volunteers are trained to remain vigilant and are coordinating closely with local police to ensure the safety of participants.
Voices And Polling
"The Jalsa Salana is a magnificent example of unity, in which people from every corner of the world, including many non‑Muslims, come together in peace and harmony," said Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad ahead of the convention.
A YouGov survey commissioned by the Ahmadiyya community, conducted in July 2026 among more than 2,000 UK adults, found that 77% of respondents believe Britain is more divided now than five years ago. The poll also found 56% feel the positive contributions of British Muslims are not widely recognised.
Khalil Yousuf, a spokesperson for the Ahmadiyya community, described the findings as "eye opening" and called for greater dialogue, saying, "Once you meet a Muslim, I'm sure you'll find we have a lot more in common than you may have previously believed." The caliph added that it causes "great grief for all sincere Muslims" when Islam is blamed for global conflict and disorder.
What To Expect At Alton
Organisers say the weekend will feature religious addresses, interfaith outreach, and community activities designed to promote understanding and harmony. Enhanced security measures will remain in place throughout the event to protect attendees and volunteers.
Note: Authorities continue to investigate the earlier security incident, and the situation remains under active police review.
