Norway's Crown Princess Mette‑Marit visited Oslo University Hospital on Thursday with Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Crown Prince Haakon, departing about two and a half hours later. The 52‑year‑old, who has severe pulmonary fibrosis, was reported to be carrying an oxygen tank. She has been preparing for a possible lung transplant, a procedure that in Norway is only performed at Oslo University Hospital and depends on scarce donor organs.

Norway's Crown Princess Mette‑Marit, who is living with a serious, incurable lung condition, visited Oslo University Hospital on Thursday. She arrived accompanied by her daughter, Princess Ingrid Alexandra, and her husband, Crown Prince Haakon. The three left the hospital approximately two and a half hours later; the reason for the visit was not disclosed.

Reported Details

Norwegian broadcaster NRK reported that the 52‑year‑old princess was seen carrying an oxygen tank on her back. Last month, Crown Prince Haakon cut short a trip to Japan because of his wife's health concerns.

Medical Context

Mette‑Marit has been diagnosed with severe pulmonary fibrosis and has been preparing for a possible lung transplant for several months. According to the Norwegian news agency NTB, lung transplants in Norway are performed only at Oslo University Hospital. Donor lungs are in short supply, and decisions about who receives a transplant are often made at very short notice.

The royal household has been discreet about private medical details, and no official statement explained the purpose of Thursday's visit. The family’s appearance prompted public concern and attention, but hospital and palace officials have not provided further information.

We will update this report as more official information becomes available.
