Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Alabama) appeared on Benny Johnson’s podcast and openly criticized his party’s legislative record, arguing Republicans have not earned the right to keep control of Congress.

During the interview about preserving an “America First” agenda, Johnson asked what would happen if Tuberville led the party’s approach. Tuberville replied that priorities in Washington are misplaced and pointed to a bloc of voters he described as neither Democrat nor Republican.

“Let’s look at a guy that got 80 million votes — that weren’t Democrat or Republican. They were just Americans. They didn’t vote Republican or Democrat,” Tuberville said.

He criticized the political focus on re-election and maintaining majorities, questioning why Republicans should retain control when, in his view, legislative accomplishments have been minimal.

“Everything that goes on up here, Benny, is about, ‘Oh, we’ve got to get reelected. We’ve got to keep the majority.’ Well, hell, we ain’t done anything in the majority. Why should we keep the majority?

We’ve gotten one bill passed, and that was President Trump pushing and pushing and pushing, and it took us 18 hours to get Republicans to vote for it — 18 hours straight on the Senate floor. And it’s embarrassing that we’re up here raising money to continue with the same people being up here. It’s just nonsense.”

Tuberville also described meeting independent pharmacists in rural Alabama who are struggling because of pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs). He called PBMs “basically a federal government giveaway and a theft ring,” saying they have siphoned money from small pharmacies that often serve as local health and community centers.

The senator then shifted to immigration and cultural concerns, offering stark and controversial comments about Muslim migrants and warning of cultural change in Europe. Those remarks drew attention for their inflammatory tone and broad generalizations about religion and migration.

Political plans: Tuberville is not seeking re-election to the Senate this fall; he is running for governor of Alabama.
