Tucker Carlson condemned President Trump’s Easter Sunday social-media post threatening strikes on Iran, calling the message “vile” and warning that attacks on civilian infrastructure could amount to war crimes. Carlson read the post on air and outlined likely humanitarian consequences — from hospital deaths to refugee flows — noting Iran’s Christian minority observing Easter. Dozens of international law experts expressed “profound concern,” and Carlson’s anti-intervention stance has put him at odds with key Trump allies, including Sen. Ted Cruz and the president himself.

Conservative commentator Tucker Carlson sharply criticized President Donald Trump on his Monday program, denouncing an Easter Sunday post in which Trump threatened strikes on Iran and setting a public deadline. Carlson called the message “vile” and warned that targeting civilian infrastructure would amount to a war crime with severe humanitarian consequences.

Trump’s Post and Deadline

“Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!!”
“Open the F---in’ Strait, you crazy b-----ds, or you’ll be living in Hell - JUST WATCH!”
— Donald J. Trump (Truth Social)

Trump later clarified the deadline as Tuesday at 8 p.m. Eastern.

Carlson’s Response

“The morning of Easter is a uniquely joyful and peaceful moment,” Carlson said on air. “And yet that peace yesterday was shattered.” He read the post aloud and called it “maybe the most real thing this president has ever done and also the most revealing on every level. It is vile on every level.”

Carlson condemned the apparent threat to strike civilian infrastructure, arguing such attacks would constitute a war crime and a grave moral transgression. He emphasized the immediate and cascading humanitarian consequences of depriving civilians of electricity and essential services:

  • Deaths in hospitals when life-support systems fail;
  • Disruption of food and water supplies leading to starvation and disease;
  • Large-scale displacement and refugee flows to neighboring countries and beyond.

Legal and Political Backlash

Dozens of international law experts signed a letter expressing “profound concern” about threats to target civilian assets such as power plants, noting that “international law protects from attack objects indispensable to the survival of civilians, and the attacks threatened by Trump, if implemented, could entail war crimes.”

The post and Carlson’s critique have deepened tensions within the MAGA camp. Carlson, long identified with an anti-interventionist, "America First" posture, has broken with Trump over foreign policy. Prominent conservatives, including Senator Ted Cruz, have publicly clashed with Carlson — Cruz has denounced him as a dangerous demagogue in the past — while Trump himself told ABC News in March that Carlson had “lost his way” and was “not MAGA.”

Context and Sources

The wider conflict has included strikes carried out in conjunction with Israel that the reporting says killed multiple senior Iranian figures. International legal and humanitarian voices have warned that intentionally targeting civilian infrastructure would have devastating effects on noncombatants.

The Daily Beast has contacted the White House for comment.
