Colorado Mother Extradited From U.K. To Face Murder Charges In Deaths Of Two Children
Kimberlee Singler faces multiple charges, including two counts of first-degree murder.

Kimberlee Singler, 37, was extradited from the U.K. to the U.S. to face charges after authorities say she drugged and killed her 9-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son in December 2023 and injured an 11-year-old. She is expected to appear in U.S. court on counts that include two counts of first-degree murder. Investigators recovered spent rounds, a blood-stained knife and empty sleeping-pill bottles at the scene; the children were found together in a bed.

Singler initially blamed an intruder and was briefly treated as a potential victim; a daughter first supported that account but later recanted. She fought extradition, arguing that a mandatory life-without-parole sentence could raise human-rights concerns; a U.K. court approved extradition and a subsequent appeal was denied.

A Colorado mother, Kimberlee Singler, 37, has been extradited from the United Kingdom to the United States to face murder charges after authorities say two of her children were killed and a third was injured in December 2023.

Arrest, Extradition And Charges

Singler was arrested in London on Dec. 30, 2023. Colorado District Attorney Michael Allen said she is expected to make her first U.S. court appearance in the coming days on charges that include two counts of first-degree murder. Allen called her return to U.S. custody a "momentous day."

Allegations And Investigation

Authorities allege Singler drugged and killed her 9-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son and injured an 11-year-old daughter. Investigators reported recovering spent rounds, a blood-stained knife and empty bottles of sleeping pills from a trash can at the December 2023 crime scene. The two deceased children were found together in a bed.

Initial Accounts And Subsequent Developments

Singler initially told police that a man had entered the apartment and committed the violent acts; investigators treated her as a potential victim early in the probe. One of Singler's daughters initially corroborated that account but later changed her statement. When authorities later moved to arrest Singler, she had already left the country and was later located in an upscale London neighborhood.

Extradition Fight And Legal Concerns

Both the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Colorado Springs police traveled to the U.K. to locate and detain Singler. She fought extradition, asserting concerns about the possible penalty she could face if convicted in Colorado. Her attorney argued that a mandatory sentence of life without parole for first-degree murder in Colorado could raise issues under European human rights protections. In January 2025, a U.K. judge authorized the extradition, and a later appeal was denied, clearing the way for her return to the United States.

Colorado Springs Police Chief Adrian Vasquez: "Crimes as horrific as this are simply heart-wrenching. No person, much less a child, should ever have to go through something like this."

The investigation and legal proceedings remain active as Singler prepares to appear in U.S. court on the homicide charges. The Associated Press contributed to this report.
