Campaign Round-Up — Dec. 10, 2025: Jasmine Crockett Shakes Up Texas Senate Race

Campaign Round-Up — Dec. 10, 2025: Jasmine Crockett Shakes Up Texas Senate Race

Rep. Jasmine Crockett launched a Democratic U.S. Senate campaign in Texas, creating a primary showdown with state Rep. James Talarico and drawing a dismissive response from Sen. John Cornyn. Rep. Marc Veasey said he will not run for re-election to Congress and is instead seeking the Tarrant County judgeship in 2026. In Missouri, the People Not Politicians group submitted about 305,000 signatures to force a referendum on a GOP-drawn map. New campaign entries in New York and Virginia — including Bruce Blakeman, Brad Lander and Tom Perriello — add new twists to the 2026 landscape.

Today’s roundup highlights the biggest campaign developments from around the United States on Dec. 10, 2025.

Texas: After weeks of speculation, U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett formally launched a Democratic campaign for the U.S. Senate this week, setting up a high-profile primary with state Rep. James Talarico. Incumbent Republican Sen. John Cornyn responded by calling Crockett’s entry a "gift," suggesting he views her as a candidate who would be easier to defeat in a general election.

Also in Texas, Rep. Marc Veasey announced he will not seek re-election to Congress in 2026. Instead, Veasey confirmed he will run for Tarrant County judge and will appear on the 2026 ballot for that local post.

Missouri: The People Not Politicians initiative submitted roughly 305,000 signatures to the Missouri Secretary of State’s Office on Tuesday — nearly triple the number required to force a statewide referendum. The effort aims to block a Republican-drawn redistricting plan and put the map before voters.

New York: Republican county executive Bruce Blakeman launched a surprise bid for governor this week and is expected to face Rep. Elise Stefanik in next year’s GOP primary. In another wrinkle for Empire State politics, New York City Comptroller Brad Lander announced a congressional campaign Wednesday morning, positioning him as a credible primary challenger to Rep. Dan Goldman after his mayoral bid fell short.

Virginia: Former congressman Tom Perriello — who pulled off a notable upset in 2008 and later served in diplomatic roles under the Obama and Biden administrations — launched a comeback campaign this week. Perriello is running against Republican Rep. John McGuire, reviving a competitive contest in the district.

What To Watch: Crockett vs. Talarico in the Texas Democratic primary will be one of the more closely watched intra-party matchups, while the People Not Politicians petition could reshape Missouri’s upcoming elections if the referendum proceeds. New entries in New York and Virginia add further unpredictability to the 2026 cycle.
