Andrew Mackay, a Northern Territory lawmaker, found via pet-cam that his dogs had nudged open a sliding door and let a steer named Sue and a horse named Cricket into his Darwin living room. The animals roamed the house for about an hour and a half, knocking items over, scattering vegetable scraps and drinking from a fish tank. Mackay posted the footage on Facebook with comedic music and confirmed that all household pets were unharmed.

Sydney — A Northern Territory lawmaker got an unexpected surprise when a pet-cam alerted him to two large visitors wandering through his living room.

Andrew Mackay, a member of the Northern Territory legislature, checked his security camera feed after dinner with his fiancée and discovered his dogs had nudged a sliding glass door open and allowed a steer and a horse into the Darwin home. Mackay later posted the footage to his Facebook page with comedic theme music, quipping that life on his rural property "may never be the same."

What the Video Shows

The clip shows two pet dogs—led by a mutt named Thunder—nudging a sliding door until it opened. A steer, a castrated bull named Sue, cautiously walks into the house and is soon followed by the family horse, Cricket, which curiously sniffs the couch and nearby furniture.

"Thankfully all of the pets were fine but now the outside animals know what aircon feels like and will no doubt try again," Mackay wrote alongside the video.

Mackay said he rushed home after noticing "a cow's head moving into the frame" on the pet-cam. He told AFP the steer likely pushed the door fully open while scratching its neck, and the two large animals spent about an hour and a half inside taking turns roaming the rooms and knocking items off cabinets.

The horse discovered a bowl of vegetable scraps intended for chickens and scattered them across the living area. Mackay also reported that the fish tank had been drunk from; he wasn't sure how many fish remained but noted the water level had fallen "by a considerable amount." By the time the couple returned, all household pets were unharmed.

The lighthearted footage drew attention online as an amusing example of rural life and the unpredictability of pets and livestock sharing the same property. Mackay said the household is now more vigilant about securing the yard and doors.
