The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office has ruled the death of Carrie Elizabeth Romney, 64, a sister‑in‑law of former Sen. Mitt Romney, a suicide after she fell five stories from a parking structure in Santa Clarita on Oct. 10. Carrie Romney and George Scott Romney were married in November 2016 and had reportedly been separated since May 25; a divorce petition was filed June 10. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled the death of Carrie Elizabeth Romney, 64, a sister‑in‑law of former U.S. Sen. Mitt Romney, a suicide.

Authorities say Carrie Romney, who lived in Valencia, was discovered after falling five stories from a parking structure in Santa Clarita on the evening of Oct. 10 at about 8:30 p.m. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Department announced the manner of death as suicide in a statement released Tuesday.

Carrie Romney married George Scott Romney, Mitt Romney’s brother, in November 2016. According to a Los Angeles County divorce petition filed by George Scott Romney on June 10, the couple had been separated since May 25.

"Our family is heartbroken by the loss of Carrie, who brought warmth and love to all our lives," Mitt Romney said in a statement to NBC News shortly after her death.
