Erika Kirk: 3-Year-Old Says She 'Can't Wait' To Join Dad in Heaven After He Was Fatally Shot

Erika Kirk says nightly conversations about heaven have helped her 3-year-old daughter cope since Charlie Kirk was fatally shot on Sept. 10 at Utah Valley University. Erika tells her daughter that Charlie is 'in a different location' and 'building us a home in heaven,' prompting the child to say she 'can't wait' to join him. The suspect, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, was arrested the next day and faces aggravated murder charges as prosecutors seek the death penalty; Robinson's next hearing is in January. Erika was granted a protective order and has two young children; she has also spoken about hoping she might be pregnant with a third child.

Erika Kirk, the widow of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, has shared how her 3-year-old daughter has been coping in the months since her father's death. The 37-year-old spoke about the conversations she has nightly with her daughter during an appearance on Sean Hannity's Fox News program, saying her family's belief in heaven has offered some comfort.

Erika described how her daughter often asks, 'What do you think Daddy did today in heaven?' and then tells her what she imagines. To help the child understand, Erika explains that Charlie is 'still with us' but in a different place and that he is 'building us a home in heaven.' When Erika relayed that idea to her daughter, the little girl replied, 'I can't wait to go.' Erika answered, 'Me too, baby.'

'We've come to the understanding, and I've tried to explain this to her, that Daddy's still with us, he's just in a different location, and he's building us a home in heaven,' Erika said.

Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot on Sept. 10 while manning a 'Prove Me Wrong' table during the first stop of his American Comeback Tour at Utah Valley University. Authorities captured 22-year-old Tyler Robinson on Sept. 11 after an extensive manhunt. Robinson faces multiple charges, including aggravated murder, and Utah County prosecutors have announced they will seek the death penalty. He has not yet entered a plea; his next court appearance is scheduled for January.

Following the shooting, Erika was granted a protective order barring Robinson from attempting to contact her. She and Charlie are parents to a 3-year-old daughter and a 1-year-old son. In a November interview on SiriusXM's The Megyn Kelly Channel, Erika also said she had been 'praying' she might be pregnant with a third child, noting that she and Charlie had hoped to have four children.

The family’s story has continued to draw public attention as legal proceedings move forward and discussions about political violence and public safety persist.
