OCA Launches Türkiye’s First Organic Cotton Training Curriculum — OCTC Now Available in Turkish & English

The Organic Cotton Training Curriculum (OCTC) is now available in Turkish and English with an accompanying Trainer’s Handbook to support sector-wide uptake. Developed with Prospera Impact and Turkish partners, the curriculum introduces a new regenerative agriculture module and adds farm management and digital literacy units to improve record-keeping and decision-making. Piloted across Türkiye’s cotton regions, the OCTC builds on OCA’s India (2022) and Pakistan (2023) training model and follows OCA’s expansion into Türkiye in 2024.

OCA Launches Türkiye’s First Organic Cotton Training Curriculum

The Organic Cotton Training Curriculum (OCTC) is now publicly available in both Turkish and English, accompanied by a Trainer’s Handbook designed to accelerate sector-wide adoption. Developed with Ankara-based Prospera Impact and informed by local Turkish partners, the curriculum adapts proven good farming practices to Türkiye’s soils, climate and crop conditions.

New Modules: Regenerative Agriculture, Farm Management and Digital Literacy

The OCTC introduces the programme’s first dedicated module on regenerative agriculture, offering practical guidance on soil health, biodiversity and strategies to strengthen long-term farm resilience. Beyond field-level agronomy, the curriculum also includes new modules on farm management and digital literacy. These focus on accurate record-keeping, smarter planning of inputs and crop rotations, and practical use of digital tools—from basic smartphone apps to farm-data platforms—to monitor performance and support decision-making.

“Türkiye’s cotton farmers are ready to take the next step, and the OCTC gives them the practical guidance to do so,” said Ömür Suner, Country Manager for OCA in Türkiye. “By tailoring the curriculum to our national agronomic conditions and collaborating closely with local partners, we are ensuring that every field officer and farmer receives relevant, high-quality support. This resource is a cornerstone for strengthening Türkiye’s leadership in organic cotton production.”

Pilots, Proven Model and Regional Expansion

The curriculum was piloted with field teams during workshops across Türkiye’s cotton-producing regions this season. It builds on OCA’s training model first rolled out in India in 2022 and Pakistan in 2023 — a programme that has delivered 25 agronomic training sessions and strengthened the capacity of nearly 200 field staff. The launch follows OCA’s formal expansion into Türkiye in 2024 and supports its long-term goal to develop a sustainable, transparent national organic cotton sector that protects local ecosystems while bolstering farmer livelihoods.

Ongoing Updates and Sector Collaboration

OCA said the OCTC will be updated regularly based on field feedback and expert input. The organisation invites NGOs, industry groups, supply-chain partners and public institutions to integrate the OCTC into their own training programmes to amplify impact across the cotton and sustainable agriculture sectors.
