Former Convict Killed in Drive-By Shooting

Obdulia Sanchez was fatally shot in a reported drive-by shooting in Stockton, California, on Tuesday, Dec. 2, the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office said. Authorities described the incident as a drive-by; no arrests have been announced and another person was wounded in the attack.

Background: The 2017 Crash

Sanchez previously served time for a 2017 drunk-driving crash that killed her 14-year-old sister, Jacqueline. At the time of the collision, Sanchez was 18, driving under the influence and broadcasting the trip on Instagram. Both sisters were ejected from the vehicle after it struck a fence; neither was wearing a seatbelt.

In the livestream, Sanchez says, “I f—— killed my sister, okay. I know I’m going to jail for life, alright? I understand that. This is the last thing I wanted to happen.”

She was later convicted of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under the influence and child endangerment, and was sentenced to six years in prison. Sanchez was released on parole in 2019 and was re-arrested later that same year, according to prior reporting.

Ongoing Investigation

Local media also noted this killing occurred days after a separate mass shooting in Stockton that left four people dead, including three children; authorities have not announced arrests in that incident either.
