Fact Check: Minnesota Denies Plan To Put 'MyGender' Dolls In K-12 Classrooms This Fall
Lead Stories says: Uni Project

Short Summary: Social posts claiming Minnesota will place "MyGender" dolls with removable genitalia into K-12 classrooms this fall are incorrect. The Minnesota Department of Education says it is not involved. The University of Minnesota researchers behind MyGender Dolls say the items are therapeutic tools for licensed clinicians, require training, and have no set launch date.

Claims that the State of Minnesota will introduce "transgender" or "MyGender" dolls with removable genitalia into public K-12 classrooms as early as fall 2026 are false, according to state officials and the University of Minnesota researchers behind the project.

What’s being claimed

In a post on X (July 25, 2026) user @EricLDaugh alleged that Governor Tim Walz is supporting dolls with removable genitalia that would be given to children "as young as 4" in Minnesota schools and that the dolls would debut in classrooms in the fall. The post included a video thumbnail bearing a Fox News logo and encouraged readers to treat the rollout as a statewide policy.

What officials say

The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) disavowed any involvement. On July 28, 2026, Emily Buss, MDE's director of communications, told Lead Stories by email that the claim the dolls "will debut this fall in Minnesota classrooms to kids as young as 4" is "patently false." She said the paper-cutout dolls are not intended for K-12 public schools and that the department is not connected to the project.

What the researchers say

The MyGender Dolls project is led by University of Minnesota professors Dianne Berg and G. Nic Rider. The university provided a statement on the professors' behalf saying the dolls are designed as a therapeutic tool for licensed professionals and clinicians, not as classroom materials. According to that statement, licensed professionals would be required to complete training before using the dolls in therapeutic practice, and there is no set public launch date.

Local reporting

Minnesota station KSTC-TV reported that schools contacted by the station were not aware of any plan to deploy the dolls in classrooms. Lead Stories' reporting, the MDE denial, and the university statement together contradict the social posts claiming a statewide classroom rollout in fall 2026.

Bottom line

False: The Minnesota Department of Education is not rolling out "MyGender" dolls to K-12 classrooms in fall 2026. The MyGender Dolls initiative originates at the University of Minnesota as a therapeutic tool for licensed practitioners, not a public-school program, and no launch date or classroom implementation has been announced.
