Vice President JD Vance has leased part of Wolver Hill Farm, a nearly 500-acre estate near Middleburg, Virginia, to serve as an additional residence for his wife and three children, two people familiar with the arrangement told CNN. The property is owned by a firm led by Charles Kuhn, whose business interests include presidential moves, extensive Virginia land holdings and data center development. A Kuhn-linked transaction last November reportedly sold nearly 100 acres for about $615 million. Vance's attorney said the rent will be set at fair market value while the family keeps their official residence at the Naval Observatory.
JD Vance Leases Part Of Nearly 500-Acre Wolver Hill Farm As Family Retreat Near Middleburg

Vice President JD Vance has leased a portion of the historic Wolver Hill Farm in rural Virginia to serve as an additional residence for his family, two people familiar with the arrangement told CNN.
The leased area is part of Wolver Hill Farm, a nearly 500-acre estate on the outskirts of Middleburg, a small, affluent town roughly an hour's drive from Washington, D.C. The property is owned by a firm led by Charles Kuhn, the founder of a moving company known for relocating several presidents to and from the White House, including former President Donald Trump.
In recent years, Kuhn has become one of Virginia's largest private landholders and a notable participant in the state's data center development. In one prominent transaction last November, a company tied to Kuhn reportedly sold nearly 100 acres to a data center investor for about $615 million.
According to sources, Vance arranged the rental primarily to provide his wife and three children with a quieter, more private place to live outside the heightened scrutiny of Washington. The vice president is expected to stay there occasionally, while he and his family will continue to maintain their official residence at the Naval Observatory.
"The rent will be at fair market value, determined with reference to the rent for comparable properties in the area," Vance's personal attorney, Chris Ashby, said in a statement.
Requests for comment to Kuhn went unanswered. The Washington Business Journal was first to report that the vice president had leased part of Wolver Hill Farm from Kuhn's firm, and CNN confirmed the arrangement with two people familiar with the matter.
Why Middleburg?
Middleburg, with a population under 1,000, has long attracted high-profile political figures seeking rural retreats. Former President John F. Kennedy once owned an estate in the area, and Ronald Reagan used a rented home there as a campaign base in 1980. For the Vance family, Wolver Hill Farm offers proximity to Washington while providing greater privacy and a more normal home life for their children.
Key details: Wolver Hill Farm spans nearly 500 acres; the property is owned by a Kuhn-led firm; a Kuhn-linked sale of almost 100 acres fetched about $615 million last November; Vance's family will primarily occupy the leased space; Vance will occasionally stay but retains the Naval Observatory as his official residence.
