A 25-year-old man was arrested Monday after investigators uncovered suspected human remains buried at a Marion County property where his 43-year-old father had been living, authorities said. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office opened the inquiry after the father was reported missing earlier this month.
Investigation Details
Deputies began investigating on May 16 after a family member reported that Andres Bahamon-Prada had not been seen since May 7. Officials said Bahamon-Prada lived at a residence in Dunnellon with his son, Andres Bahamon.
Detectives developing the case found evidence that led them to treat the disappearance as a potential homicide, according to an arrest affidavit reviewed by Fox News Digital.
What Detectives Reported
When deputies responded to the Dunnellon property on May 18, they documented multiple signs of possible violence and disturbance at the scene, including shattered glass doors with what appeared to be a bullet hole, a shell casing on the porch, suspected bloodstains and freshly disturbed soil in the backyard.

Investigators say Bahamon allegedly sent a photograph to his mother, who lives in Germany, that appeared to show a man lying motionless near wooden steps at the property, with a large red stain visible near his head. Authorities say the image matched the description of Bahamon-Prada.
Evidence Recovered
Detectives obtained a search warrant for the property and discovered a large rolled carpet buried beneath recently turned dirt. According to the affidavit, officers noted the odor of decomposition while excavating the area and ultimately recovered suspected human remains from inside the carpet. Investigators are still working to positively identify the remains.
Arrest, Charges and Ongoing Work
As the probe progressed, deputies named Andres Bahamon a person of interest. He was arrested and charged with tampering with evidence in the missing-person investigation. Authorities allege he concealed or removed the victim’s body in an attempt to hinder the homicide investigation.
Detectives also reported that the victim’s silver 2007 Infiniti M35 disappeared from the property several days after the victim was last seen and remains missing. Investigators believe the vehicle may contain evidence related to the case and continue to search for it.
Anyone with information about the vehicle or the investigation is asked to contact the Marion County Sheriff’s Office at 352-732-9111.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. Authorities have not publicly announced additional charges while forensic identification and follow-up inquiries continue.
