Hours after an ICE officer fatally shot Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis, Border Patrol agents followed a car to Roosevelt High School and clashed with teachers, students and residents during dismissal. Witnesses say officers pushed past staff and that at least one teacher was tackled; video shows community members chanting as agents left. DHS says a teacher assaulted an agent and that objects and paint were thrown, and denies using tear gas. The Minneapolis Federation of Teachers says an educator was arrested and later released. All Minneapolis Public Schools were closed citywide while the incident is investigated.

Hours after a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer fatally shot 37‑year‑old Renee Nicole Good on a snowy Minneapolis street, U.S. Border Patrol agents pursued a vehicle to Roosevelt High School and engaged with teachers, students and neighborhood residents during dismissal.

What Happened at Roosevelt High

According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), agents followed a U.S. citizen for about five miles after the person struck a government vehicle during immigration enforcement operations; the chase ended at Roosevelt High School. Witnesses described chaotic scenes as hundreds of students were leaving campus and school staff tried to keep federal agents off school property.

Local witnesses, including a resident who identified herself only as Carol, told reporters a caravan of armed SUVs arrived at the school and agents rushed toward the building. Carol said she saw officers push past staff and that at least one teacher was tackled. She provided video to NBC News showing residents shouting "Shame! Shame! Shame!" as officers departed.

Allegations and Official Response

DHS said that while officers were removing the driver from his vehicle, "an individual who identified himself as a teacher proceeded to assault a border patrol agent." The agency said a crowd formed, objects were thrown and paint was splattered on officers and vehicles, and that agents used "targeted crowd control" for safety while denying the use of tear gas.

The Minneapolis Federation of Teachers said an educator was arrested and later released, and the union has alleged that tear gas was deployed at the scene—an assertion DHS denies. Residents and local outlets also identified a Border Patrol commander, Gregory Bovino, who witnesses say entered a school doorway in camouflage while another agent filmed him.

Community Reaction and School Closure

Multiple local outlets, including MPR News and KARE (the NBC affiliate in Minneapolis), reported skirmishes between agents and community members. Neighbors and school staff expressed alarm that federal personnel engaged in enforcement activity at or near an active school during dismissal.

In response to both the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good and the disturbance at Roosevelt, Minneapolis Public Schools announced it would close all district schools through Monday "out of an abundance of caution." The district said the Roosevelt incident involved federal law enforcement and is under investigation.

Ongoing Inquiries

NBC News and local outlets have sought further details from DHS about arrests, use of crowd-control measures and the sequence of events. The agency did not immediately provide full answers to all inquiries. The incidents have prompted questions from the community and calls for transparency as law enforcement and local officials continue investigations.
