Abraham Herrera, 21, has been arrested and linked to three shootings in Hays County, Texas, including two alleged drive-by attacks and a Nov. 12 SWAT standoff in which an AR-15-style rifle was recovered. The first shooting on Nov. 3 seriously injured a homeowner in Kyle; forensic testing later tied shell casings from that scene to the rifle seized during the standoff. Herrera was briefly released after the initial arrest but was taken into custody again on Dec. 19 on a Texas Rangers warrant. Prosecutors have added aggravated assault and evidence-tampering charges; his combined bond is set at $409,500.
Repeat Offender Arrested After SWAT Standoff, Linked to Three Hays County Shootings; Bond Set at $409,500

A 21-year-old repeat offender, Abraham Herrera, has been arrested and tied to three separate shootings in Hays County, Texas, roughly 15 miles south of Austin, authorities say. Prosecutors allege the incidents include two drive-by shootings and a separate barricade incident that ended in a SWAT standoff.
Sequence of Events
The first reported shooting occurred on Nov. 3 in the 500 block of Santa Fe Run in Kyle, where deputies found a homeowner seriously injured after multiple rounds struck a residence. Investigators described that attack as a random act of violence with no clear motive at the time.
Nine days later, on Nov. 12, Hays County SWAT responded to a barricade call in Buda after additional reports of shots fired. Officers initially confronted Herrera; he allegedly fled into nearby woods and refused to surrender. Following a standoff, SWAT took Herrera into custody and recovered an AR-15-style rifle and ammunition at the scene. He was booked on charges including evading arrest or detention, unlawful carrying of a weapon, disorderly conduct and tampering or fabricating physical evidence.
Court records indicate Herrera was released from custody just two days after the SWAT standoff despite those pending charges. Investigators say a second drive-by shooting occurred over the Thanksgiving weekend in Martindale; on Dec. 1 authorities were reportedly alerted to that incident and said evidence later pointed toward Herrera.
Herrera was taken into custody on Dec. 19 on an outstanding warrant issued by the Texas Rangers. Several days after that arrest, forensic testing linked shell casings recovered from the Nov. 3 Kyle shooting to the firearm seized during the SWAT confrontation. Prosecutors subsequently added charges, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, disorderly conduct with a firearm, tampering with physical evidence and additional counts of evading arrest.
Current Status
Reports indicate Herrera now faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges with a combined bond set at $409,500. The Hays County Sheriff’s Office and the Hays County District Attorney’s Office did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Note: All allegations are based on reporting by FOX 7 and statements from law enforcement; Herrera is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
